Childcare Lead Teacher:

Job Purpose:
To oversee an individual child or group in an early childhood setting. The main roles of the lead teacher are to guide children, develop and implement an age appropriate and culturally diverse curriculum that supports the domains (cognitive, emotional, physical, and social) of child development and to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education; or Associate Degree or CDA in Child Care Development and two years of experience;

Level 2 criminal background check needed before employment. Current CPR/first-aid certification and completion of DCF’s 45 hour classes.

Classification: Non-Exempt

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be a team player. Show respect for your supervisors, co-workers, children in your care, and all parents and family members. 

  • Adjust your personal schedule to accommodate the needs of the center. Be flexible with hours scheduled realizing that the center is open from 6:30AM until 6:00PM and you may have to come in early or stay later than expected.

  • Maintain a drama free environment. 

  • Smile and greet all parents and children.

  • Sustain a healthy, organized, and safe learning environment

  • Develop curriculum/lesson plans;

  • Assess children's level of development and evaluate progress;

  • Supervise play;

  • Arrive to work on time and leave when no longer needed.

  • Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times

  • Adhere to minimum licensing requirements and program policies and procedures

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Communicate effectively and positively with children, coworkers, parents, and visitors

  • Maintain children and program records and submit required paperwork

  • Orient children and parent/s to your classroom

  • Communicate frequently with parents regarding child’s development

  • Prepare children for entering and exiting your classroom and program

  • Administer and sustain an age appropriate, child centered, and culturally diverse learning environment

  • Implement and evaluate learning activities for children

  • Safely supervise children by being mobile throughout the classroom, interacting, and maintaining staff-child ratio

  • Planning, supervising, and implementing the program for the class in accordance with daily lesson plans and policies and philosophy of the school.

  • Completing administrative duties for the class including keeping attendance, completing accident reports, maintaining classroom supply inventories, etc.

  • Gearing the program to the needs of the individual child with concerns for his interests, handicaps, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.

  • Considering the individual child in relationship to his cultural and socioeconomic background.

  • Helping each child to become aware of his role as an integral member of a group.

  • Assisting the staff in the effective use of assistants and aides.

  • Assisting the director and staff in parent-school relationships.

  • Attending all staff meetings and recommended training programs.

  • Demonstrate ability to handle crisis situations, especially where children are involved, able to respond immediately to any emergency situation.

  • Responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom.

  • Assisting in public relations events sponsored by the school.

  • Keeping floors, walls, doors, and fixtures clean, safe, operable, and presentable.

  • Sanitizing toys, counters, toilets and washbasins daily.

  • Keeping entrances, walks, porches, steps, and parking areas swept free of debris and other obstructions.

  • Help to keep the garden and grounds neat and attractive at all times.

  • Helping to keep the kitchen in a sanitary condition.

  • Emptying trash daily

  • Storing all cleaning supplies and equipment in locked closets and cabinets, out of reach of children

  • Continually develop skills by attending at least 15 hours of job-related training annually.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Childcare Lead Teacher:

To support the lead teacher in overseeing an individual child or group in an early childhood setting. The main roles of the assistant teacher are to support the lead teacher in guiding children, developing and implementing an age appropriate and culturally diverse curriculum that supports the domains (cognitive, emotional, physical, and social) of child development and in maintaining a healthy and safe learning environment.

Qualifications:
CDA (Child Development Associate) Certificate; or experience with young children or completion of early childhood classes.  Level 2 criminal background check needed before employment.  Current CPR/first-aid certification and enrollment in DCF’s 45 hour classes.

  • Support lead teacher in implementing and evaluating learning activities for children

  • Safely supervise children by maintaining staff-child ratios, being mobile, and interactive

  • Support lead teacher in assessing and planning for individual children and group activities.

  • Helping to keep the kitchen in a sanitary condition.

  • Emptying trash daily.

  • Storing all cleaning supplies and equipment in locked closets and cabinets, out of reach of children.

  • Continually develop skills by attending at least 15 hours of job-related training annually

  • Other duties as assigned.
